Looking Back on TWI 2023

Each fall for the past eleven years, graduate students in the School of Theatre & Dance are offered a class focused on the writing of playwright Tennessee Williams. No ordinary seminar, this class also takes students to the week-long Tennessee Williams Festival in Provincetown, MA where they see 8-10 plays and study under world-renowned scholars, providing students with myriad networking and professional development opportunities.

New Movement Professor Brings the Eastern Art of Suzuki to West Texas

When Texas Tech advertised for a movement specialist on faculty, someone to bring non-western methods to the department, Staley highlighted his extensive Suzuki training and promoted it as an opportunity to share not only an eastern acting method but also a global one.

In Motion

As Head of Dance, I could not be more excited about the year ahead. Over the summer, I worked on the self-study for our upcoming accreditation site visit for National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD). We are proud that the program has grown tremendously in the last ten years.

Embracing Practice

Inevitably, it seems I write the column for our fall newsletter in Provincetown, where the School of Theatre and Dance sponsors 9 graduate students to join the Scholars Institute at the Tennessee Williams Festival (which we helped to create in 2012). This year, the subject is Williams, Science Fiction, and Fantasy, truly breaking boundaries in our conventional thoughts about the playwright.
