Tennessee Williams Institute: Year 11

In September, Dr. Charney led a group of nine graduate students to Provincetown, Massachusetts to participate in the Tennessee Williams Institute and Festival where they watched plays by or related to Tennessee Williams, and discussed them, along with other scholarship, in an Institute, now in its 11th year. The theme of the festival this year was “Tutti-Frutti,” including almost all plays by Williams.

Introducing Instagram Takeovers

In September, Texas Tech Theatre and Dance introduced something new to our social media platforms: the Instagram Takeover. These takeovers feature members of our program as they go about their days on campus, giving alumni, potential students, and all our other followers the inside scoop on the Red Raider theatre and dance experience.

Celebrating Texas Tech's Centennial

In celebration of Texas Tech’s centennial year, the School of Theatre and Dance collaborated with the Office of the President on a kick-off performance entitled “Eyes on the Horizon.” The event celebrated the first 100 years of Texas Tech, 1923 to present-day, while looking forward to the next 100 years. Directed by Dr. Bill Gelber, and choreographed by Kyla Olson, both Theatre & Dance faculty, the performance took place August 25 in the Allen Theatre.

Faculty Spotlight: Rachel Hirshorn-Johnston

Rachel Hirshorn-Johnston, Associate Professor of Voice & Speech and Head of the Acting/Directing program, is beginning her seventh year at Texas Tech University. In addition to teaching at Texas Tech, she also works as an actor and vocal coach for regional theatres throughout the United States, especially Ford’s Theatre in Washington, DC among many others.
