Molly May, Student Assistant

“My experience working for Administration and Finance has been very informative and rewarding. As an accounting student, it has been really helpful and interesting to see some of the things I have learned about in class being done in practice. I have acquired a lot of technical knowledge and developed skills like how to collaborate with individuals in other departments and how to manage large, lengthy projects. I have also been able to connect with other student assistants and individuals within Administration and Finance and the Administration Building. Being a college student, it is nice to have a network of people in Lubbock that I can look up to and go to for advice when I need it. During my time here, I have been able to see how dedicated everyone in Administration and Finance is to their work. The level of devotion everyone has to the university is inspiring and makes me proud to be a part of the team!”

“Working at University Recreation has been a wonderful experience! They provide students with support and community. It is so much more than just a job to me. I have fostered friendships, developed as a leader, and obtained skills that will help me in the future. I could not have asked for a better place to work as a student!”

Mason Byrd, Housing Ambassador and Student Staff Leadership Council

"During my three years as a student staff member with USH, I have worked as both a Community Advisor and Housing Ambassador. I also serve on the Executive Board of the Student Staff Leadership Council. These positions have given me countless leadership, communication and general job skills that I will be able to use in my future career field. The best part of working for USH is being able to connect and serve our residents and fellow staff members. The experiences and friendships I have made will truly last a lifetime."

Bridget Bigden, Student Assistant

“Working for Accounting Services has been an incredible learning experience. I got a ‘behind the scenes' look at what it takes to financially run Texas Tech University. Throughout my employment, I worked on different projects that got progressively more difficult and learned the complexities of each department. This job gave me a taste of the real world, working with deadlines, and being accountable for the work I produce. I have learned how to effectively communicate with coworkers to get projects finished as efficiently as possible, I learned what it takes to be prepared to begin a new job, and I learned that making mistakes is okay if you take accountability, fix the issue and make an effort to prevent future mistakes. I am grateful for the opportunity to work for Accounting Services alongside the great professionals that work there.”

Bibhav Chapagain, Community Advisor

"Living at one of the on-campus residence halls as a firsttime international student allowed me to transition and adjust well to a new culture. Hence, getting to work as a Community Advisor was the perfect opportunity for me to return the favor to the University Student Housing (USH) department. In addition to meeting people and building new relationships, USH has challenged my personal beliefs and allowed me to think out of the box to solve problems. Being in a customer-service environment as a mentor, a resource, and an approachable individual has taught me life skills that is resulting in a rewarding experience. I am very thankful to USH for giving me this opportunity to work with a group of motivated and supportive individuals that have been contributing to my personal and professional growth."
