Harrison Moats 2026 Rising Innovator
Harrison Moats is recognized for his entrepreneurial leadership and early-career impact in the renewable energy industry. As a graduate of one of the first cohorts of Texas Tech University’s Wind Energy program—a legacy of today’s Renewable Energy academic offerings—Moats represents the next generation of innovators advancing sustainable solutions through business and technology.
Moats is the Co-Founder and Director of Operations at Solar Service, a rapidly growing private firm he launched with his partner in 2017. Specializing in the maintenance of residential solar, batteries, and EV chargers, Solar Service has distinguished itself through a unique subscription-based model designed to ensure long-term system performance and operational continuity. Under Moats’ leadership, the company generated approximately $3 million in revenue last year and has earned over 1,000 five-star customer reviews, making it the highest-rated solar company in Texas on Google. The firm plans to expand its service model nationwide in the coming years.
Before founding Solar Service, Moats held progressively senior roles at major renewable energy firms, including SunPower and Renewable Energy Systems (RES), where he gained hands-on experience in large-scale operations. This professional foundation, combined with his entrepreneurial drive, has enabled him to translate technical innovation into real-world impact.
A dedicated Red Raider, Moats’ ties to Texas Tech run deep; his father (Steven Moats - Class of ‘81) and several family members are also alumni. He remains committed to the university’s renewable energy programs and prioritizes hiring Texas Tech graduates as his company expands. He currently resides in Wimberley, Texas, with his wife, Monica, and their two daughters, Rose and Lily.
Moats embodies the spirit of innovation, loyalty, and forward-thinking leadership celebrated by the Rising Innovator Award and the College of Arts & Sciences.
