Presentation Guidelines

There are no specific requirements or limitations regarding PowerPoint (PPT) size/dimension for oral presentations. Although the use of visual aid is highly encouraged, the decision is entirely up to the student and the advisor. If you need a PPT template for your Oral Presentation, please visit

ORAL PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

Here are the guidelines for presenting in an oral presentation format:

  1. Email your presentation at least 3 days prior to the symposium to Jennifer.Hamrick@ttu.edu You may also Bring your PPT presentation in the form of a jump drive the day of the event.
  2. Check-in at the Registration table at the ICC and inform the registration table of any possible changes to your presentation at that time so the PowerPoint can be updated.
  3. Pay close attention to the time assigned to you for the presentation.
  4. Arrive at your designated presentation time 30 minutes prior to your designated time slot.
  5. Your PowerPoint will be uploaded to the desktop of the computer in the front of the room prior to the session.
  6. Oral sessions will last a total of 1 hour.
  7. There will be a maximum of 3 students assigned for each session.
  8. Oral presentations are 20 minutes long: 17 minutes for presentation and 3 minutes for questions.
  9. Visual aids should be displayed in a logical sequence (e.g. abstract, introduction, method, and results or conclusion). This may vary by discipline, so check with your faculty advisor for guidance.

Abstract Guidelines

Abstracts should only be submitted in collaboration with a faculty mentor, who will be named on the presentation. Only one abstract per study is permitted.

The abstract must follow American Psychological Association (APA) style guidelines and be no fewer than 150 words or more than 200 words. Abstracts should begin with a sentence stating why the topic is important and end with the general conclusion, relevance, or potential impact. All acronyms must be spelled out at first mention. The abstract for a data-based presentation also must include: 1) an overview of the types of participants, 2) an overview of the types of procedures, and 3) a statement of what the data showed, with what degree of confidence.
