Savannah Pannell selected as spring Outstanding Senior for Human Development and Family Sciences

What is your major?

Human Development and Family Sciences

Why did you choose your major?

I chose HDFS because I always wanted to make a difference in someone's life. With this degree, I get to understand how to interact with people and how I can help them with anything they may need.

How did it feel to be selected as the Outstanding Senior for Human Development and Family Sciences?

It felt wonderful to be selected for the Outstanding Senior Award. I graduate in December and I want to know that I made a difference or contributed something useful to Tech. Receiving this award has made me feel like I made my mark.

What stands out about the Human Development and Family Sciences program?

The thing that stands out the most about the HDFS program is how it relates to everyone, no matter who you are. We all will interact with people every day of our lives and this program focuses on enhancing and understanding those interactions.

How will the skills and knowledge that you have gained in the Human Development and Family Sciences program benefit your future?

The skills and knowledge that I have learned will help me in my future by allowing me to understand how to interact with others. Specifically, in the workplace, I will be in charge of a team and I need to make sure that I am meeting the needs of all employees.

What do you most enjoy or appreciate about the Human Development and Family Sciences program?

The thing that I enjoy and appreciate the most about the HDFS program is how wonderful the professors are. Each of my professors has pushed me in their classes, making sure I understood the content and making me a better student. They are the best and they make all the classes fun and make sure that students are doing well.

What are your career plans/next steps?

After I graduate, I do plan to move to Colorado Springs, Colorado, and begin working with the VA Clinic. I want to work in either a Human Resource role or take on a role dealing more with patients and their families.
