Texas Tech University

Enrollment Quick Steps

  1. Prepare for registration.
Visit the Add or Drop Classes tool and select Prepare for Registration to review your holds, permits, and time tickets.
    • Holds – Registration holds will prevent you from enrolling in classes. If you have a hold, contact the office that placed the hold for assistance.
    • Permits – Some classes require permits in order to enroll. Most students do not need permits, so it's okay if you don't see any in your summary.
    • Time tickets – You must have a time ticket to enroll in classes. Your time ticket lists the time and date that you can begin registering. If you do not have a time ticket, please contact a departmental advisor for assistance.
  2. Get a refresher on how to use registration tools.
Visit our Registration Help page for information about using tools like DegreeWorks, Visual Schedule Builder, and the Add or Drop Classes tool.
  3. Review your DegreeWorks audit.
DegreeWorks allows you to track your degree progress in real time and find classes that will fulfill remaining degree requirements. DegreeWorks cannot change your degree program or semester schedule, so feel free to click and explore - there's no need to worry about making unintended changes.
  4. Build your semester schedule with Visual Schedule Builder (VSB).
Add your selected courses to Visual Schedule Builder and watch it generate hundreds of possible schedules. Use the sort and filter options to narrow down your results, then save your preferred schedules as Favorites to use during registration.
  5. Talk with a departmental advisor about your plans.
Advising meetings are optional; however, we strongly encourage students to contact a departmental advisor regularly for guidance. Advisors can help you understand your remaining degree requirements, review your semester schedule, and offer suggestions to keep you on track for graduation.
  6. Register for classes.
Use the Add or Drop Classes tool to register for classes. Register as close as possible to the start date of your time ticket so you can get seats in the classes you need.
    • Waitlists – If the course you want is full but there are waitlist seats available, add yourself to the waitlist. Then register for a back-up course that you can live with if the waitlist option doesn't work out. Remember to check your TTU email account at least once daily so that you don't miss a waitlist notification. Use the Waitlist Flowchart for a more detailed guide.

Before the next semester begins:

When your eBill is ready, you'll be notified via TTU email. Use the eBill portal to make a payment or enroll in a payment plan.
  3. Purchase your course materials.
Students may purchase or rent course materials from their preferred source. But first, get your complete list of course materials from the TTU Bookstore.
