Academic Support & Tutoring
Students registered with Student Disability Services have access to academic support resources designed to strengthen study skills, organization and academic independence. SDS offers tutoring options for registered students and can connect students with additional academic support available across Texas Tech.
SDS Tutoring
Student Disability Services offers free drop-in tutoring for students registered with SDS. Tutoring can help students better understand course material, develop academic strategies and strengthen skills such as organization, note-taking, studying and test preparation.
SDS tutoring is intended to supplement class participation and independent study. It is not a substitute for attending class, completing assigned readings or attempting coursework before meeting with a tutor.
Prepare for Tutoring
To make the most of a tutoring session:
- Attend class and review assigned readings, notes and course materials before meeting with a tutor.
- Attempt assignments before asking a tutor for assistance.
- Bring relevant notes, textbooks, assignments and other course materials.
- Come prepared with specific questions or topics you need help understanding.
- Follow Texas Tech academic integrity requirements.
Tutors cannot complete assignments for students or assist with material identified as a quiz or test.
Drop-In Tutoring
SDS offers free drop-in tutoring for students registered with Student Disability Services. Drop-in tutoring takes place in the SDS office at 130 Weeks Hall.
No appointment is required. Students may visit during scheduled tutoring hours and receive assistance on a first-come, first-served basis.
Fall 2026 Schedule
For Fall 2026, SDS Drop-in Tutoring is provided by one student. His name is Jonathan. His availability and supported subjects vary by schedule. Because SDS tutors are also students, availability may change during the semester.
Jonathan's current availability is:
- Mondays from 1PM to 5PM
- Tuesdays from 10AM to 12PM
- Wednesdays from 1PM to 5PM
- Thursdays from 10AM to 12PM
Drop-In Tutoring Expectations
- Attend class and attempt your work before coming to tutoring.
- Bring notes, textbooks and other materials related to the course.
- Be prepared for tutors to work with more than one student at a time.
- Do not ask tutors to assist with quizzes or tests.
- Follow Texas Tech policies and academic integrity requirements.
Campus Academic Support
Texas Tech offers additional academic support services that are available to the broader student community. Students may use these services alongside SDS resources.
The Learning Center
The Learning Center provides free peer tutoring and academic resources for Texas Tech students. Tutoring is offered in subjects including mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, accounting, engineering and other courses.
The Learning Center also provides resources related to study strategies, time management and goal setting.
Mathematics & Statistics Tutoring
The Department of Mathematics & Statistics offers free tutoring and study support for students enrolled in mathematics courses. Undergraduate and graduate mathematics students provide assistance with course material.
Undergraduate Writing Center
The Undergraduate Writing Center works with undergraduate students on writing projects at any stage of the process. Consultations are available for class assignments, scholarship applications, graduate school applications and other writing projects.
Students can receive support in person, online or through written and audio feedback options.
Graduate Writing Center
The Graduate Writing Center supports graduate students and postdoctoral associates with academic and professional writing. Services include individual consultations, writing groups, workshops and other writing programs.
University Career Center
The University Career Center provides career development resources for Texas Tech students and alumni, including career advising, internship and job resources, résumé assistance, career events and appointments.
CLASS Program
Collegiate Level Autism Support Services, or CLASS, is a seven-week skill and strategy development program offered during the fall semester for eligible first-year students with autism spectrum disorder.
The program is offered in small groups and is designed to support the transition from high school to college. Students receive an early move-in date so they have time to become familiar with campus, university resources and their residence hall before the semester begins.
Program Structure
CLASS meets twice each week for seven weeks and includes weekly peer support groups. Program topics include:
- Executive functioning and organization
- Time management
- Social and interpersonal skills
- Campus navigation and resources
- Academic strategies
- Independent living and self-advocacy
Eligibility & Application
CLASS is a participation-charged program with limited enrollment. It is available to first-year students with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.
Students must first apply for services through Student Disability Services. Qualifying students may then be invited to interview for CLASS. Because enrollment is limited, admission to SDS does not guarantee placement in the CLASS Program.
CLASS is currently full for Fall 2026. Applications for Fall 2027 will open in November 2026.
