E. G. and Evelyn Cauble, Jr. Endowed Scholarship

The E.G. and Evelyn Cauble, Jr. Scholarship Endowment was established by E.G. and Evelyn Cauble, Jr. of Big Lake, Texas in 1998. These scholarships are available for undergraduate students majoring in the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources.

Mr. E. Gideon Cauble, Jr. graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics in 1933. E. G. Cauble Jr., 90, of Big Lake passed away in a San Angelo hospital on Tuesday, February 26, 2002. He survived his wife of 68 years, Pauline Evelyn Gregory Cauble, by one day.

E.G. was born to Mary and E.G. Cauble Sr., on March 18, 1911, in what is now Floyd County, Texas. He grew up in Reagan County, attended school in Stiles and graduated from Stiles High School in 1929. He graduated from Texas Tech University and later completed graduate work at Texas A&M and the University of Wyoming. E.G. taught vocational agriculture in Reagan County High School from 1935 until 1945. He then worked for the US Department of Agriculture in San Angelo, Boston, Denver and Washington D.C. until 1955, when he returned to Reagan County to enter the Ranching business.

During his career, E.G. served as a supervisor of the Middle Concho Soil Conservation District, as a member of the A.S.C.S County Committee, the Farmers Home Administration Committee and the Reagan County Tax Appraisal Board. He was a president of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association in 1962, a director of the American Sheep Producers Council 1962-1965, a director of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce 1960-1965, he was manager of the Big Lake Chamber of Commerce 1965-1968 and served as one of the original members of the Reagan County Hospital District. He and H. B. Rees organized the Reagan County Lions Club in 1941 and he served as the second president of the club. He was named Man of the Year in Agriculture in 1969 by the Texas County Agents Association.
