Waddle Partners, LTD Endowed Scholarship

Bob Waddle

The Waddle Partners, LTD Scholarship Endowment was established in 2014 by Waddle Partners, LTD. Funds provide scholarships to undergraduate student majoring in the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources. Preference is given to student with financial need and consideration is given to military (active duty, veterans and/or their immediate family or survivors).

Bobby G. Waddle graduated in 1955 with a bachelor's degree in agriculture education and went on to earn a master's degree in sociology from the University of Northern Colorado in 1972. He has spent his entire adult life in service to his country and community. Upon graduation from Texas Tech University, he began his career in the United States Air Force.

During his 30 years in the service, Bobby was a flight instructor, and fighter pilot. He flew more than 150 combat missions, and has more than 5,000 hours of military flying time. He served as commander of the 40th Cadet Squadron at the U.S. Air Force Academy. He was Chief of the Air Force Academy Activities Group at the Pentagon and Deputy Chief of Staff for Education at Air Training Command. He received two Legion of Merit Awards, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and 11 Air Medals. He retired as Colonel in 1985.

A lifetime resident of DeSoto, Texas, he returned home to work and manage the family farming and ranching interests and reside on land that has been in his family for generations. He was first elected to the DeSoto City Council in 2001. As a volunteer, Bobby dedicated an inordinate amount of time attending city council, board and regional meetings along with numerous chamber of commerce functions. In 2002, he was selected as Mayor pro tem and served as such for the next five years before being elected full Mayor in 2007. In 2005, the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce created the Bobby Waddle Citizen of the Year Award in his honor.

Bobby served on the North Central Texas Council of Governments Executive Board for four years and was elected President in 2009. He represented the organization on the Board of Directors of the Texas Association of Regional Councils of Government, and served on the Executive Board of the North Texas Commission. Bobby was also the president of the Metroplex Mayors Association.

He is a member of the DeSoto Lions Club and serves on the administrative board of his church. He also currently serves and has for the past 25 years on the board of Dalworth Soil and Water Conservation District representing Dallas and Tarrant counties and portions of Ellis and Johnson counties.

Bobby is a proud member of the Texas Tech Alumni Association where he has served two terms on its National Board of Directors and frequently attends chapter meetings. In addition, he serves on the board of directors of the newly established military and veteran's chapter of the Texas Tech Alumni Association.

He and his late wife, Sherry, have three daughters, Tanya Land, Kimberly Buttgen and Elizabeth Dowell, and nine grandchildren.
