Students named as semifinalist are encouraged to follow the directions set by the National Merit Corporation to apply for finalist standing. Additionally, we encourage you to make contact with Texas Tech University to begin a dialogue of your options as a student including your academic and extracurricular aspirations. Students that reach finalist standing will be notified in February by the National
Merit Corporation. Qualifying students that designate Texas Tech University as their
first choice institution are eligible to receive 100% of federally approved cost of
attendance including tuition, fees, room, board, books, transportation and a personal/miscellaneous
allowance. National merit awards are funded by a combination of federal, state and
institutional gift aid funds including Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Opportunity
Educational Grant, TEXAS Grant, Texas Public Education Grant, Texas Tech Grant and
Qualifying students should make the designation no later than the deadline designated by the National Merit Corporation to maximize eligibility. Students should contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions for more information or with questions.
Students that qualify for participation in this program will be eligible for 4 years of undergraduate studies. Students should enroll in 15 hours per long semester and maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA.
National Merit Finalists who select Texas Tech University and are not residents of the State of Texas, also qualify for Texas Tech's National Merit Scholars Program.
