Will Doss, Ph.D.

Background
Dr. Will Doss is an assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural Education and Communications at Texas Tech University. He teaches courses at the undergraduate level specializing in agricultural education including Introduction to Teaching and Developing Secondary Agricultural Education Programs. At the graduate level his courses include Research Methods and Survey Development and Instrumentation. Additionally, he supervises student teachers in agricultural education. Dr. Doss received the NACTA Educator Award for excellence in college teaching in 2025.
Dr. Doss’ research agenda focuses on increasing human capital in agricultural education programs through: (a) improving school-based agricultural education student participation impacts in FFA and SAE activities; (b) improving instructional strategies for better impacts on teaching and learning experiences; (c) improving agricultural education preservice teacher preparation practices; and (d) improving methodological practices with agricultural education research. He has authored or co-authored 23 refereed journal articles in agricultural education journals. Dr. Doss has received several recognitions for his research including the Journal of Agricultural Education Journal Article of the Year award in 2023, the E. B. Knight NACTA Journal Article of the Year in 2025, and Outstanding Research Presentation at National and Southern Region American Association for Agricultural Education (AAAE) conferences.
In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Doss enjoys serving school-based agricultural education programs through membership on the National FFA Organization agriscience fair committee and through outreach activities with Texas schools and FFA chapters. He also serves on the AAAE research committee and is currently chair elect for the Southern Region. Dr. Doss is on the editing managing boards for the Journal of Southern Agricultural Education Research and Journal of Agricultural Systems, Management and Technology. He is also an associate editor for conference abstracts at the NACTA Journal.
Dr. Doss is a native of East Texas, growing up in Grand Saline, TX. He received his B.S. in agricultural science and M.S. in agricultural leadership, education, and communications from Texas A&M University. Following, Dr. Doss was an agricultural education teacher for two years at Bryan ISD and three years at Van ISD. He earned his Ph.D. from Texas Tech University in agricultural communications and education with a focus in agricultural education in 2021. After completion of his Ph.D., Dr. Doss worked at Texas A&M – Commerce for one year and the University of Arkansas for three years before returning to Texas Tech in 2025.
Dr. Doss and his wife, Haylee, are the proud parents of Harlee.
