Scholars have opportunities to achieve goals traditionally reached only through graduate programs and advanced professional opportunities. TTU undergraduate students can apply year round, and will be invited to interview on a case by case and as needed basis. Interviews are conducted by a team of current undergraduate Scholars, faculty mentors, and the program directors. New and current Scholars attend an annual Scholar Orientation and other CISER events.

Scholars work year round with faculty mentors as either volunteers or paid as research assistants with the goals of presenting and publishing their research. Prior research experience on a research project for at least 3 months is required to be eligible for pay. Scholars participate as leaders in the Scholar Service Organization (SSO) @ CISER (formerly the TTU/HHMI SSO) and become an integral part of the CISER STEM community, participating in the a variety of dynamic events and opportunities.

Requirements

To be eligible for this program, students must:

1. be a full-time undergraduate students in good academic standing;
2. be interested in research and service in the STEM disciplines;
3. be either an American citizen or permanent resident, or, in the case of foreign nationals, hold a visa allowing her/him to work in this country;
   be committed to a long-term research experience, and be able and willing to maintain a serious and ongoing commitment to their research project during the academic year;

4. must be conducting research already with a faculty mentor associated with

   Texas Tech University or the TTUHSC;

5. and have worked on a research project for at least 3 months and have a recommendation/evaluation from their faculty research mentor or supervisor who should describe the applicant's abilities relative to the potential success of to be eligible for scholarship support.
