Report to Law Enforcement

If this is an emergency, dial 911.

Reporting to law enforcement is an option available if you have experienced any crime. Reporting to law enforcement may allow for a criminal investigation to be conducted and criminal charges to follow.

If you call 911 on campus, the Texas Tech Police Department (TTPD) will respond.  For non-emergency situations on campus, please call 806.742.3931 to speak with a TTPD officer. For incidents occurring off campus, within the city of Lubbock, call Lubbock Police Department (806.775.2865) to speak with an officer.

If you are not ready to file a report with law enforcement, you can still call and speak with an officer about the process, available resources and protective orders that are available.

What happens when I report to law enforcement?

  • TTPD operates a 911 and non-emergency dispatch center 24/7/365.
  • An on-duty patrol officer will be dispatched to provide initial support and help facilitate rapid response, if needed, from other emergency services.
  • You may decline police and other emergency services at any time.
  • If you want law enforcement involvement, the on-scene officer will establish minimum information including the date, time, location and identity of involved parties.
  • If an immediate threat is present due to an on-scene suspect or other dangerous condition, additional TTPD Officers will be dispatched to help mitigate the threat.
  • The on-duty TTPD supervisor will notify TTPD command staff and TTU Clery Director of all known facts as soon as possible for purposes of initiating established procedures related to Clery Act compliance.
  • If necessary, an on-call Detective will be dispatched to assist the on-scene patrol officer.
  • If you are the victim of a sex offense, the on-scene officer or detective will provide the  options related to timely evidence preservation (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE)) and help connect you with both SANE and advocacy support services (i.e., Voices of Hope, etc).
  • The on-scene officer or detective will provide additional options for reporting and follow-up investigation (i.e., Title IX, Student Conduct, Other).
  • If you elects to participate in the filing of an offense report, officers will afford you the opportunity to use a pseudonym.
  • The detective will arrange a more detailed interview at a later date to allow sufficient rest and recovery.
  • TTPD will provide information about the Texas Crime Victim's Compensation Program and assist in filing applications if requested.
  • TTPD will provide final case presentment at the conclusion of the investigation to the Lubbock County District Attorney.
