Changwon Son has been named a Fellow of Texas Tech University’s Institute for Faculty Excellence (IFE).
Changwon Son, assistant professor in the Department of Industrial, Manufacturing & Systems Engineering and director of the Safety, Human Factors and Resilience Engineering (SHARE) Lab at Texas Tech Universitys Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering, has been named a Fellow of Texas Tech Universitys Institute for Faculty Excellence (IFE).
The fellowship recognizes faculty members who demonstrate leadership in teaching, scholarship and professional development.
“This recognition reflects not only my commitment to advancing teaching and scholarship but also the outstanding support I have received from colleagues, students and collaborators across disciplines,” Son said.
Sons research focuses on human factors, resilience engineering and human–AI teaming in high-stakes environments. His work aims to prepare the next generation of engineers and researchers to address complex safety, human performance and technological challenges.
Over the past several years, Son has received multiple honors, including the Early-Career Research Fellowship from the National Academies of Sciences Gulf Research Program and the George T. and Gladys Abell-Hanger Faculty Award from the Whitacre College of Engineering. His research has been supported by grants from the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the National Safety Council and the Gulf Research Program, among others.
“I look forward to leveraging this opportunity to continue enhancing student learning, expanding impactful research and fostering innovation that bridges human factors and emerging technologies,” he said.
The Institute for Faculty Excellence supports Texas Tech faculty in professional development, leadership and innovation across disciplines.
