College Panhellenic Council

The College Panhellenic Council (CPH) is the governing council for Texas Tech's 12 sororities affiliated with the National Panhellenic Conference.

CPH coordinates recruitment, provides programs and leadership opportunities for members and supports collaboration among Panhellenic chapters. Students interested in joining can participate in Primary Recruitment or, when available, Continuous Open Bidding.

About CPH

The College Panhellenic Council brings together Texas Tech's National Panhellenic Conference sororities and serves as a self-governing support system for the Panhellenic community.

The council coordinates recruitment and provides programs and activities designed to strengthen the member experience. CPH also gives students opportunities to build relationships across chapters and contribute to the broader fraternity and sorority community.

Texas Tech's College Panhellenic Council includes 12 sororities.

Students interested in a particular chapter are encouraged to learn about its values, membership experience, academic expectations, financial obligations and involvement opportunities before making a membership decision.

How to Join

There are two primary ways students may join a College Panhellenic Council sorority at Texas Tech: Primary Recruitment and Continuous Open Bidding.

Most students join through Primary Recruitment, which takes place before the fall semester and gives participants an opportunity to meet all 12 Panhellenic sororities. Students who want the opportunity to be considered by the full Panhellenic community are strongly encouraged to participate in Primary Recruitment.

Primary Recruitment

Primary Recruitment is the coordinated recruitment process for all 12 College Panhellenic Council sororities at Texas Tech. It is held before the beginning of the fall semester.

Throughout the process, potential new members meet sorority members, learn about each chapter and narrow their options through a mutual selection process.

Eligibility

Students must be enrolled at Texas Tech as full-time students to participate in Primary Recruitment. Individual sororities may also consider academic performance and other membership standards established by their organizations.

What to Consider

Recruitment is an opportunity to learn about organizations rather than simply choose among chapter names. Students should consider:

• How the organization's values align with their own
• Academic expectations and support
• Leadership and involvement opportunities
• Community service and philanthropy
• Financial obligations
• Time commitments
• The overall membership experience

Rho Gammas

Recruitment counselors, known as Rho Gammas, support potential new members throughout Primary Recruitment. They can answer questions about the process, help participants understand their options and provide support as students make decisions.

Withdrawing From Recruitment

Participation in recruitment is voluntary. A student may choose to withdraw from Primary Recruitment at any point during the process. Students considering withdrawal should speak with a Rho Gamma or member of the recruitment team so they understand their options.

Current recruitment dates, registration deadlines, schedules and other details are maintained by the Texas Tech College Panhellenic Council.

Continuous Open Bidding

Continuous Open Bidding (COB), sometimes called open recruitment, is an informal process that allows eligible Panhellenic chapters to offer membership outside Primary Recruitment when they have space available.

COB may occur after Primary Recruitment or during the spring semester. Not every sorority participates and the chapters eligible to participate can change from semester to semester.

How COB Is Different

• There is no council-wide recruitment schedule.
• Students may not have an opportunity to meet every Panhellenic sorority.
• Individual chapters determine whether they will participate.
• Participating chapters organize their own events and invitations.
• Opportunities depend on available membership space.

Students interested in COB should follow current information from the College Panhellenic Council and individual chapters. Because participation changes, FSL cannot guarantee that a particular chapter will conduct COB during a given semester.

Spring Membership Opportunities

The College Panhellenic Council does not conduct a council-wide spring recruitment process. Instead, students interested in spring membership may learn about the Panhellenic community through informational programming and explore COB opportunities offered by individual chapters.

Current Members

Panhellenic involvement continues beyond joining an individual sorority. Current members can build relationships across chapters and develop as leaders through council programs, service and other opportunities.

Junior Panhellenic

Junior Panhellenic provides first-year Panhellenic members an opportunity to learn more about the larger council community and connect with members from other chapters.

Participants learn how Panhellenic involvement can contribute to leadership development, campus involvement and their broader fraternity and sorority experience.
