Chapter Leaders
Chapter officers are responsible for maintaining communication with Fraternity & Sorority Life, their governing council, advisors and inter/national organization. Leadership transitions should include the information and access incoming officers need to successfully manage chapter responsibilities.
At the beginning of each officer term, chapter leaders should:
- Confirm officer and advisor contact information is current
- Review university, council and inter/national organization expectations
- Review important FSL and council dates and deadlines
- Confirm access to organization accounts and university systems
- Review chapter goals, academic performance and areas for improvement
- Establish regular communication with advisors
- Identify required educational programs and officer responsibilities
Stay Connected
FSL communicates important deadlines, requirements and opportunities to chapter and council leaders throughout the year. Officers should regularly monitor their Texas Tech email and share relevant information with members and advisors.
Chapter Operations
Successful chapters depend on consistent operations and accurate information. Student leaders should maintain chapter records, complete university requirements on time and involve advisors when making significant organizational decisions.
TechConnect
Registered student organizations use TechConnect to manage organization information, maintain required records and access university student organization resources.
Student Involvement
Student Involvement provides information for registered student organizations, including university recognition, organization requirements and campus resources.
Advisors & Headquarters
Strong partnerships with advisors and inter/national organizations help chapters maintain continuity, address concerns and support student leaders.
Policies & Accountability
Review university expectations, hazing prevention information, risk education requirements and chapter accountability resources.
Chapter Events & Activities
Chapter leaders should plan events early and make sure activities meet applicable university, council and inter/national organization requirements. Depending on the activity, chapters may need to coordinate with advisors, FSL or other university offices before an event occurs.
Questions about an upcoming activity should be directed to the chapter's FSL council advisor before plans are finalized.
Membership & Rosters
Accurate membership information is important for chapter and community records, academic reporting and university communication. Chapters are responsible for completing membership updates and roster requirements according to deadlines communicated by FSL.
Chapter Responsibilities
Chapter officers responsible for membership records should:
- Keep chapter membership information accurate and current
- Complete roster updates by FSL deadlines
- Report new members through the process communicated by FSL
- Report membership changes when students affiliate, initiate, resign or otherwise change membership status
- Review chapter records for accuracy before semester reporting deadlines
- Contact FSL when a roster or membership record appears incorrect
New Member Education & Membership Intake
Organizations conducting new member education or membership intake are responsible for following university, council and inter/national organization expectations throughout the process.
Chapter leaders should communicate with their FSL council advisor before beginning a membership process and complete any required notifications, roster updates or educational requirements according to the current semester's instructions.

- Participate in service, leadership and campus involvement
- Speak up when behavior does not reflect chapter or university expectations
- Support fellow members and connect them with help when needed
