Multicultural Greek Council

The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) is the governing council for Texas Tech's recognized multicultural fraternities and sororities.

MGC brings together organizations with distinct histories, traditions and areas of cultural emphasis. Member organizations share commitments to leadership, academic success, service, community and cultural awareness. Membership is open to students of all backgrounds who meet the requirements of the organization they wish to join.

About MGC

The Multicultural Greek Council provides leadership and coordination for its member fraternities and sororities while helping organizations work together as a community.

MGC organizations were founded from a variety of cultural traditions and experiences. Students do not need to identify with a particular background to pursue membership. Prospective members are encouraged to learn about each organization's history, values, membership expectations and community before deciding which organization may be the right fit.

How to Join

MGC organizations welcome new members through recruitment and membership intake processes managed by each individual chapter. Unlike a single council-wide recruitment process, MGC chapters generally establish their own schedules, events and membership timelines.

Students interested in joining should take time to learn about several organizations and become familiar with their values and membership expectations.

1. Explore MGC

Learn about the organizations within the council and consider which organizations align with your interests and values.

2. Meet the Chapters

Attend MGC and chapter events, community service activities, informational programs and tabling opportunities to meet current members.

3. Attend MGC 101

Potential members must complete MGC 101 before joining an MGC organization.

4. Follow the Chapter's Process

Each organization conducts its own membership process according to chapter, inter/national organization, council and university expectations.

Membership Eligibility

Membership requirements vary among organizations. MGC organizations follow membership standards established by their inter/national organizations, including:

Enrollment as an undergraduate student at Texas Tech
A minimum GPA established by the individual organization
Completion of organization-specific membership requirements

Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee membership in an organization.

MGC 101

MGC 101 introduces prospective members to the Multicultural Greek Council and provides information students need before beginning membership in an MGC organization.

Students interested in joining an MGC fraternity or sorority must attend an MGC 101 session before joining.

MGC Showcase

MGC Showcase gives Texas Tech students an opportunity to meet members of the Multicultural Greek Council and learn about its fraternities and sororities.

Students can use the event to explore the histories, values and traditions of MGC organizations, ask current members questions and learn more about the process for pursuing membership.

Students who are considering MGC membership are encouraged to attend, even if they have not decided which organization they are interested in joining.
