Interfraternity Council
The Interfraternity Council (IFC) is the governing council for many of Texas Tech's men's fraternities.
IFC supports its member organizations through recruitment, leadership development, academic initiatives, philanthropy and programs that strengthen the fraternity community. Students interested in joining an IFC fraternity can explore membership through informal or formal recruitment.

About IFC
The Texas Tech Interfraternity Council provides leadership and coordination for its member fraternities. Many IFC organizations are affiliated with the North American Interfraternity Conference.
Although each fraternity has its own history, values and membership experience, IFC organizations share commitments to personal development, academic achievement, leadership, service and involvement in the university community.
IFC membership can provide students with opportunities for:

Texas Tech currently recognizes 23 IFC fraternities. Two additional organizations are expected to expand to campus during Fall 2026.

Expanding Fall 2026
Tau Kappa Epsilon and Sigma Phi Epsilon are expected to expand to Texas Tech during Fall 2026.
Organization recognition can change. Students should confirm an organization's current status with Fraternity & Sorority Life before participating in recruitment or membership activities.
Unrecognized Organizations
Some organizations may operate without recognition from Texas Tech University or the Interfraternity Council. Unrecognized organizations may not participate in official IFC or university activities.
If you are unsure about an organization's status, contact Fraternity & Sorority Life before participating.
How to Join
Eligible students may pursue IFC membership during the fall or spring semester. Texas Tech IFC uses both Informal Recruitment and Formal Recruitment to give students multiple ways to meet fraternities and explore membership.
1. Explore IFC
Learn about the recognized fraternities, their values, membership experiences and expectations.
2. Complete the IFC Interest Form
Students interested in IFC membership should complete the interest form so fraternities can connect with prospective members.
3. Meet Multiple Chapters
Attend recruitment events and talk with members from several organizations before deciding where you may fit best.
4. Make an Informed Decision
Consider values, academics, finances, time commitments, leadership opportunities and the overall membership experience before accepting a bid.
Complete the IFC Interest Form
Informal Recruitment
Informal Recruitment gives students an opportunity to meet fraternity members in a less structured setting. Chapters may host recruitment events before Formal Recruitment and at other times during the academic year.
Informal Recruitment can help students:
- Meet members in a more casual environment
- Learn about chapter culture and values
- Ask questions about membership
- Explore several organizations at their own pace
- Build connections before Formal Recruitment
Participating in Informal Recruitment does not prevent a student from later participating in Formal Recruitment.
Recruitment activities should be substance-free and follow Texas Tech, FSL, IFC and inter/national organization expectations.
Formal Recruitment
Formal Recruitment is IFC's structured fall recruitment process. It gives prospective members an opportunity to meet IFC fraternities through scheduled recruitment activities and learn more about the community before making a membership decision.
The process may include:
- Scheduled recruitment rounds
- Opportunities to meet multiple fraternities
- Educational programming
- Support from IFC recruitment leaders
- Structured activities leading to Bid Day
Registration
Students interested in Formal Recruitment must complete the IFC Interest Form and any additional registration steps communicated for the current recruitment cycle.
Dates, fees, schedules and registration requirements can change from year to year. Students should use current IFC communications rather than information from a previous recruitment cycle.
Before Recruitment
Prospective members should take time to consider what they want from fraternity membership and come prepared to ask questions about:
- Chapter values and expectations
- Academic performance and support
- New member education
- Time commitments
- Membership costs
- Housing expectations, if applicable
- Leadership opportunities
- Service and philanthropy
- Chapter culture and member experience
Choosing a Chapter
Joining a fraternity is a significant commitment. Students should explore multiple organizations and choose based on where their values, goals and expectations align rather than making a decision based only on reputation or existing friendships.
Questions to Ask
- What values guide the organization?
- What is expected of new members?
- How does the chapter support academic success?
- What are the total costs of membership?
- How much time does membership require?
- What leadership opportunities are available?
- How does the organization approach risk management and member safety?
- What service or philanthropy work does the chapter participate in?
- How involved are chapter advisors and alumni?
- What does membership look like after college?
Membership Should Be Your Decision
Students should not feel pressured to accept a membership offer before they are ready or discouraged from exploring other recognized organizations.

Current Members
IFC involvement continues beyond joining an individual fraternity. Current members can participate in council leadership, programs and activities that connect students across the fraternity community.
IFC Programs
Programs may vary by semester, but current IFC activities include opportunities centered on community, athletics and interfraternal involvement.
- Greek Basketball Association: A basketball program involving IFC fraternities during the fall semester.
- Dust Bowl: An interfraternity all-star football event held during the spring semester.
- Football Season Programs: IFC organizations may participate in council community-building activities connected with Texas Tech football.
