Leadership & Recognition

Fraternity & Sorority Life provides opportunities for students to develop as leaders, contribute to the fraternity and sorority community and be recognized for outstanding service, scholarship and involvement.

Leadership happens throughout the fraternity and sorority experience, from serving as a chapter officer to participating in a governing council, mentoring other members or representing the community across campus. FSL supports that growth through leadership development programs, involvement opportunities and annual recognition.

Leadership Development

Fraternity and sorority membership offers students opportunities to practice leadership in real settings. Members may manage chapter operations, lead committees, plan events, oversee budgets, mentor new members, coordinate service projects and represent their organizations within governing councils and the university community.

Fraternity & Sorority Life works with chapter and council leaders to help students strengthen skills that can serve them during college and beyond.

Chapter Leadership

Serve as an officer, committee chair or project leader and gain experience in planning, communication, decision-making and organizational management.

Council Leadership

Represent your chapter and help guide the broader fraternity and sorority community through IFC, CPH, NPHC or MGC leadership.

Peer Leadership

Mentor other members, support new member education and help create a chapter culture that reflects organizational and university values.

Campus & Community Leadership

Apply leadership skills through service, campus organizations, employment and other involvement beyond your chapter.

Leadership Summit

FSL Leadership Summit brings fraternity and sorority organization presidents together for an intensive leadership development experience focused on strengthening individual chapters and the broader fraternity and sorority community.

The program emphasizes leadership development, community-building and critical thinking. Participants have opportunities to connect with other chapter leaders, examine challenges facing the community and work toward shared goals.

Who Participates?

Leadership Summit is designed primarily for fraternity and sorority chapter presidents. Specific participation requirements, dates and registration information are communicated to chapters by Fraternity & Sorority Life.

FSL Ambassadors

FSL Ambassadors represent the Texas Tech fraternity and sorority community to prospective students, families, campus partners and other audiences.

Ambassadors help communicate the fraternity and sorority experience, answer questions about membership and provide an informed student perspective on the community.

Ambassador Opportunities

Depending on current programming needs, ambassadors may assist with:

Informational sessions for prospective students and families
Campus or fraternity and sorority community tours
Recruitment and outreach events
Leadership or educational programs
Representing FSL at university events
Sharing accurate information about fraternity and sorority membership

Students are selected through a nomination or application process when positions are available. Current opportunities are communicated by Fraternity & Sorority Life.

Honor Societies

Honor societies recognize fraternity and sorority members who demonstrate strong scholarship, leadership and involvement within the university and fraternity and sorority community.

Order of Omega

Order of Omega recognizes fraternity and sorority students who demonstrate high standards of leadership, scholarship and involvement.

Membership is intended for upper-level students who have distinguished themselves through service to their organizations, the fraternity and sorority community and Texas Tech.

Members participate in service and community activities and receive recognition for their leadership and involvement.

Rho Lambda

Rho Lambda recognizes sorority members who demonstrate outstanding leadership and commitment to the fraternity and sorority community.

The organization provides an additional opportunity to recognize students whose service and leadership extend beyond their individual chapters.

Membership opportunities and eligibility requirements may vary by year. Students interested in an honor society should contact Fraternity & Sorority Life for current information.

FSL Awards

The annual FSL Awards recognize fraternity and sorority chapters and individual members whose work reflects the values and priorities of the Texas Tech fraternity and sorority community.

The awards process also gives chapters an opportunity to reflect on their accomplishments, identify areas for continued growth and highlight programs and practices that strengthen their organizations.

Fraternity & Sorority Life publishes current award criteria, deadlines and submission instructions during each annual awards cycle. Chapters should use the current information provided by FSL rather than materials from previous years.

Get Involved

Students do not need to wait until they hold a major chapter office to begin developing as leaders. Talk with your chapter or council about committee roles, council opportunities, peer leadership, service and other ways to contribute.

Fraternity & Sorority Life can also help students identify opportunities that match their interests and experience.
