Academics & Scholarships
Academic success is an important part of the fraternity and sorority experience at Texas Tech.
Fraternities and sororities can provide students with academic support, accountability and opportunities to celebrate achievement. Chapters may offer study programs, peer mentoring, tutoring, scholarships and other resources designed to help members succeed in the classroom.

Academic Success
Students come to Texas Tech first to earn a degree. Fraternity and sorority membership should support that goal.
Many organizations establish academic expectations for members and provide resources to help students develop productive academic habits. Depending on the organization, these may include:
- Minimum GPA requirements for membership
- Study hours or academic plans
- Peer mentoring
- Tutoring and study groups
- Time management and study-skills support
- Academic incentives and recognition
- Chapter or inter/national scholarships
Students should understand their organization's academic requirements and seek help early if they begin experiencing academic difficulty.
Community Academic Performance
Fraternity & Sorority Life tracks community academic performance each fall and spring semester. Grade reports help chapters, councils, advisors and students understand academic trends and recognize achievement across the community.

In Spring 2026, 21% of students in the fraternity and sorority community earned a 4.0 term GPA. The overall FSL GPA of 3.330 was higher than the 3.11 GPA for all Texas Tech undergraduate students.

Academic performance varies among councils and chapters. FSL recognizes organizations demonstrating strong academic achievement as well as chapters making significant improvements.

Grade Reports
Fraternity & Sorority Life publishes a community grade report following each fall and spring semester. Reports provide academic performance information for the fraternity and sorority community, councils and individual chapters.

Scholarships
Fraternity and sorority members may be eligible for scholarships from several sources. Students are encouraged to explore opportunities early because eligibility requirements and application deadlines vary.
Texas Tech Scholarships
Texas Tech offers scholarships for new and continuing students. Continuing students can use ScholarshipUniverse to create a profile and match with university and external scholarship opportunities.
Chapter & Inter/National Scholarships
Many fraternities, sororities, foundations and inter/national organizations offer scholarships to members based on academics, leadership, service, financial need or other criteria.
Students should check with their chapter leadership, advisors and inter/national organization for current opportunities.
Council Opportunities
Governing councils or affiliated organizations may offer scholarships or academic recognition opportunities. Availability and requirements may change from year to year.
Students should follow council communications and contact their FSL council advisor for current information.
External Scholarships
Students may also qualify for scholarships offered by foundations, professional associations, community organizations and other external providers.
