Channon Cain Alumni Profile
2002 Personal Financial Planning (PFP) alumnus Channon Cain, MBA, CFP®, CRC®, CFS® grew up with an interest in business that quickly extended to a passion for financial planning after a College of Human Sciences academic advisor introduced him to the PFP program at Texas Tech University.
After a summer internship his freshman year, Channon knew he wanted to work with people in a business environment. PFP felt like the perfect fit. Channon explains that the magic of the PFP program continues even after graduation, having the support of fellow peers who are all working to improve and enhance the human condition through financial planning.
Following his graduation from Texas Tech in 2002, Channon went on to complete a Masters of Business Administration from St. Edward's University in 2015 and a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Strategy from Saïd Business School at Oxford University, which he just recently finished this year.
Having a desire to gain global leadership, Channon trained in the Agility Programme at Oxford, a global leadership program developed in partnership with his current company and Oxford.
In his current role as the Vice President of Advanced Strategies for a top financial services company, Channon says he enjoys the opportunity to utilize creativity to develop advanced financial strategies for clients so that they can reach their goals.
"The PFP program has been instrumental in me choosing this career path and my success in it."
The PFP program provided Channon with a role on the PFP Alumni Advisory Board and Double T Society, working to further the program's initiatives and success.
"I feel like it is a way that I can give back to the program that set me on my current trajectory. I am now able to see how much the professors and administrators work behind the scenes to foster a great learning environment for the students. I enjoyed taking part in the mentor program and sharing ideas about how to make the program even better."
Outside of his career Channon enjoys spending time with his wife, Lauren, and three children: Chloe, Caroline, and Peyton. Channon is a self-proclaimed fitness enthusiast who enjoys running, swimming, mountain biking, and weight training in his spare time.
Channon would like to thank his former professors for serving as great mentors throughout his career.
"I have always said that being in the TTU PFP program was like being a part of a small private university embedded into a very large public institution," Channon said. "The people, professors, and your classmates all come together to foster this incredible environment where people want to learn and want to help each other."
