Dual Bachelor of Science and BSN Degree in Human Sciences and Nursing

The dual BS+BSN degree in nursing and human sciences is the first of its kind at Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

The undergraduate dual degree program allows you to complete both a bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University's (TTU) College of Human Sciences and a bachelor's degree from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Nursing. You will be actively enrolled at both TTU and TTUHSC simultaneously.

The collaborative human sciences and nursing bachelor's degree offers students a flexible, interdisciplinary, and unmatched learning experience.

The dual bachelor's degree in human sciences paired with the bachelor's degree in nursing offers you the unique opportunity to learn a holistic approach to nursing and health care, understanding how to care for the entire person and their wellbeing. Bachelor of Science in Human Sciences (BSHS)
The highly marketable and rigorous interdisciplinary undergraduate major builds interpersonal skills that are valuable in the health care field. You can expect to build a strong background that will not only prepare you for a career in nursing, but also prepare you to adapt quickly to cultural, economic, and technological changes. The interdisciplinary studies degree allows students to pursue a flexible degree specifically designed for your career goals.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
The BSN degree leads you down a path that offers the best, state-of-the-art nursing education. You will gain invaluable, hands-on learning experiences that utilize patient and hospital simulations. Hospital and classroom settings provide students the ability to learn skills using the latest technology. Attending one of the top BSN nursing schools in Texas, your education is enhanced through the comprehensive curriculum and a passionate student and faculty community.

Pursuing the dual degree does not guarantee acceptance to the TTUHSC School of Nursing. Students not admitted to the School of Nursing are able to complete the BSHS degree.

How does the dual degree work?

    1. Declare a Bachelor of Human Sciences Major at Texas Tech

      You will focus the first 60 hours (approximately 2 years) of your undergraduate studies in the BSHS degree program, which is made up of the three academic concentration areas below:
      1. Human Sciences
      2. Health Professions
      3. Human Sciences in Nursing
    2. Complete Required Coursework

      In your first two years, you will complete all required pre-nursing prerequisite courses as well as the following BSHS courses:
      1. HUSC 1100: Introduction to Human Sciences
      2. ADRS 2310: Understanding Alcohol, Drugs, and Addictive Behaviors
      3. Multicultural Core
      4. PFI 2301: Personal Financial Literacy
      5. Oral Communications CFAS 2300: Communication, Civility, and Ethics
      6. Mathematics Core
  1. Apply to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing

    Upon completion of all required coursework, you will apply to the TTUHSC School of Nursing. The School of Nursing reviews each applicant in an individual and holistic manner for admission.

    Pursuing the dual degree does not guarantee acceptance to the TTUHSC School of Nursing. Students not admitted to the School of Nursing are able to complete the BSHS degree.

    Upon acceptance to the TTUHSC School of Nursing, you will need to email the director Shannon.Tebo@ttu.edu so we can update your file.

 

At the end of four years, you will graduate with two degrees.
