Associate Professor of Practice Gary Danhof looks forward to impacting students at Skyviews Restaurant lab experience
The Hospitality and Retail Management department in the College of Human Sciences (COHS) recently welcomed Gary Danhof to their faculty as associate professor of practice this semester. Danhof also begins his role at the college's hospitality lab space and student-run operation, Skyviews Restaurant, as general manager.
Danhof has nearly 40 years of hospitality industry experience. In his previous role, Danhof served as the production manager for Aramark Healthcare.
"Being a Professor of Practice, I have been in the foodservice industry for approximately forty years, thirty of those years being in Lubbock," Danhof said. "Most of this time was in restaurants with the last eight years being in Institutional foodservice."
Danhof says he has always enjoyed working with young people and college students, something that perfectly aligns in his new role with the College of Human Sciences. With years of experience staffing restaurants filled with many student employees, this is an area he is well-versed in.
"It provided me the opportunity to teach and coach them daily. Not only was I teaching them restaurant procedures and techniques, but I also knew I was teaching them skills they would use throughout their lives."
As he enters the college and role with Skyviews Restaurant, Danhof says he is thankful for the opportunity to teach, guide, and prepare future leaders of the hospitality industry.
