Nutritional Sciences Major Tezarea Derry is the August 2020 Banner Bearer for the College of Human Sciences
The College of Human Sciences (COHS) has selected Nutritional Sciences (NS) major, Tezarea Derry as the Banner Bearer for August 2020.
“I was born in San Antonio, but because of my Dad's job in the military, I lived all around Texas."
Tezarea chose to study Nutritional Sciences because she said she wanted to learn more about proper nutrition, having always loved cooking from a young age.
"I wanted to learn more about the science behind preparing food and also to learn how nutrition impacts health and quality of life. I also wanted to learn about the medical aspects that are involved to give me a greater understanding as I want to become a Physician Assistant."
Following graduation in August, Tezarea plans to enter Physician Assistant (PA) school to earn her master's degree.
"The College of Human Sciences stands out from other colleges because the professors here truly want to see their students succeed. This college also provides students with the opportunity to learn more about different cultures. The students who leave this college come out more understanding. I feel blessed and grateful to have this opportunity to represent this amazing college. It's a great honor to have been chosen and I appreciate this chance to be the Banner Bearer. The skills I have learned here will help me have a greater scope of knowledge when I get into my field of work as a Physician Assistant. I have more about different cultures and have learned about those struggling with addiction which will help me be more understanding with individuals I come into contact with."
