Laura Morris changes lives in the healthcare field through interior design

Laura Morris graduated from the Department of Design with a Bachelor of Interior Design degree. Currently, Morris is working at Perkins&Will in New York.

In this position, Morris is responsible for the overall design direction of the practice and coordinates all studio projects across the Northeast region. Morris believes that good design stems from teamwork, and she implements this into her daily life through mentorship programs.

While watching her father recover from a brain aneurysm and her mother go through cancer, Morris' learned that she has a passion for helping and caring for others. She knew that she had chosen the right direction to take her interior design degree.

After searching throughout the state of Texas for an interior design program that fit her needs and wants, Morris found the Department of Design at Texas Tech University. After learning about what the program has to offer, Morris knew Texas Tech University was the place for her.

“At the time, Texas Tech's program seemed more focused on integrating architecture and interior design, while focusing on the technical aspects of the profession,” Morris said. “That was more interesting to me than what some would assume would be the artistic part of our practice.”

Morris has a strong belief that the Interior Design program at Texas Tech University has grown over the years by adding the element of architecture to the Interior Design program. She would recommend this program to those who are interested in working in the design field.

“I feel the depth in research, technology, and design allow an individual to create their own path in the profession once they graduate,” says Morris.

The Interior Design program provided Morris with the knowledge necessary to succeed in the world of design. Texas Tech University provided her with the ability to excel right after graduation. After learning the fundamentals of Interior Design, Morris was able to take what she had learned and design in the healthcare field, where she gained more expertise.
