Angela Rattan Boren Memorial

Angela Rattan Boren, a former food and nutrition faculty member, passed away on September 29, 2024. She was 96 years old.  

Boren graduated with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics Education in 1950 from Texas Tech University. She later returned to the university as an assistant professor of food and nutrition for 22 years. During this time, Boren graduated with her master’s degree in food and nutrition in 1962.   

Boren was a very active and proud member of the Texas Tech community. She and her husband deeply loved athletics and were inducted into the Texas Tech Athletics Hall of Legacy in 2010. Boren served on the Texas Tech Foundation Board of Directors and was the Chair of the Alumni Relations Committee of the College of Human Sciences Dean’s Advisory Council. In 1989, Boren was honored with a College of Human Sciences Distinguished Alumni Award for her dedication and career achievements.  

In Lubbock, Boren was known as an exemplary schoolteacher and community member. She participated actively in the Women’s Council, West Texas Museum Association, Lubbock Women’s Club, Heritage Study Club, and the Lubbock Chapter of the Ninety-Nine's.  

Boren will be remembered for her spirit of generosity and kindness.
