Myra Jean Timmons, a former Apparel Design and Manufacturing faculty member, passed away on January 31, 2025. She was 95 years old.

Timmons roots began in West Texas, growing up in Ralls, Texas. She attended Texas Tech University, graduating with her undergraduate degree in home economics in 1950. She went on to receive her master’s degree in 1966.

Timmons devoted much of her life to higher education as a faculty member at Texas Tech for almost 41 years. She taught courses on construction/sewing, design, and tailoring. Timmons, along with former faculty member Eleanor Woodson, were leaders in securing accreditation for the program and establishing a relationship with Fashion Group International in Dallas, Texas. This partnership continues today, providing students with valuable industry opportunities.

Rachel Anderson, a current faculty member in the Apparel, Design, and Manufacturing program, was a student of Timmons.

“Myra Timmons was my professor, mentor, and friend. Herself and Eleanor Woodson were integral to the success of the development of our Apparel Design and Manufacturing program and studios as we know them today,” Anderson emphasized. “I am so thankful for her friendship, mentorship, and support of our students and program.”

Timmons was a great source of inspiration for students, and her skill and creativity continue to be admired.
