Jacob Korir
Jacob Korir has master's and bachelor's degrees in Food, Nutrition and Dietetics both from Kenyatta University in Kenya. His Master's thesis was in community nutrition, and it focused on maternal infant and young child nutrition.
Jacob has majorly worked in Public Health Nutrition sector in over 10 countries in Africa and Oceania continents. In his career spanning over 12 years, he has worked as a regional technical advisor, international nutrition programming consultant, nutrition program manager and associate faculty among others. He has supported nutrition sectors at the national and sub-national level on (i) Large scale nutrition program design and delivery (ii) System strengthening and capacity development (iii) Integrated multisectoral nutrition programming and coordination (iv) Monitoring, evaluation and learning (v) Policy and strategy development, and (vi) Nutrition leadership and advocacy among others.
Jacob joined the Community Nutrition and Health Intervention (CNHI) Lab in Fall 2023. His doctoral research area is in Nutrition Policy and Governance. His specific topic of study is “Advancing Multisectoral Nutrition Governance (MNG) for improved nutrition outcomes in Kenya”. His study aims at assessing the current status of MNG, how it has evolved over the last 10 years, and barriers and enablers. It is anticipated that the findings will inform policy and program decisions related to nutrition governance in Kenya and developing countries. He is currently in the process of collecting data for his study.
Professional highlights in nutrition policy and governance theme include (i) Providing technical support to national and sub-national governments in 11 countries on nutrition program planning and implementation (2016-2022) (ii) Leading the process of developing Uganda Nutrition Action Plan (2019) (iii) Chairing the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Network in Kenya (2014), and (iv) Advocating for sustained funding for nutrition at the European Parliament (2015).
