Wasiuddin Najam

Bio

Wasiuddin Najam (Wasi) is currently a Doctoral Student in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Indiana University Bloomington. Wasi started his Master of Science in Nutritional Sciences under the mentorship of Dr. Wilna Oldewage-Theron in Fall 2021 at Texas Tech University (TTU) as a Fulbright Scholarship recipient from the US Department of State. Prior to this, Wasi completed his Pharm.D. degree in Fall 2019 from Kabul University, Kabul, Afghanistan, and worked as a Lecturer for a year. Wasi was actively involved in several research projects during his master's degree, which have yielded four peer-reviewed publications and three conference presentations to date. His master's research focused on the association of nutrition knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and practices with cardiometabolic diseases risk factors among adults.  Alongside his academic commitments as a graduate student, Wasi volunteered as a Student Provider in the Nutrition and Metabolic Health Initiative at TTU. He also continued to work voluntarily as a Weekly Contributor with the Obesity and Energetics Offerings. Moreover, during his second year of studies, Wasi engaged in a mentoring role, serving as a mentor to undergraduate students in the Community Nutrition and Health Interventions Lab. In this capacity, he provided guidance and support on a range of topics, including data analysis, manuscript writing, and poster presentation.
