Md “Abu” Bakkar Siddik

Bio
Md "Abu" Bakkar Siddik is a second-year Ph.D. Student in the Department of Nutritional Sciences. Abu came to TTU during fall 2016 and completed his Masters in Nutritional Sciences under the supervision of Dr. Vijay Hegde. During his Masters, he worked on a Methionine Aminopeptidase 2 (MetAP2) inhibitor which acts as an anti-angiogenic compound (BL6). Findings from this study support a possible role for MetAP2 inhibitor, as a putative anti-obesity therapeutic agent. At present he is working with Dr. Vijay Hegde (Chair) and Dr. Andrew Shin (Co-chair) on Alzheimer's disease (AD), its relationship with diabetes, and how various metabolic pathways are linked with AD and Diabetes. He also presented his research findings at a couple of international conferences including Obesity Week (2018), American Society for Nutrition (2019) and, AAIC (2019). Prior to coming to Texas Tech University, he received a B.S. in Nutrition and Food Science at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. There he completed a project focusing on determining the mineral content of some selected Bangladeshi food.
