I received my BS and MS in Nutritional Sciences from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Iran. During my master’s program, I concentrated on clinical nutrition, specifically investigating the impact of the well-known Mediterranean dietary pattern on type 2 diabetes risk in the Iranian population. Transitioning into a Ph.D. program in basic science, I became interested in understanding how individual nutrients influence disease progression across different population subgroups. The sex disparity in the progression of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) attracted my attention. It led me to look deeper into nutrient metabolic changes occurring in the brain before and during AD in both sexes.

My current research centers on sex differences in brain glucose metabolism in AD. I work to address a fundamental mechanism that may underlie sex-based disparities in AD –brain glucose hypometabolism- using in-vitro and in-vivo AD models. The ultimate goal is to contribute to developing personalized interventions, acknowledging and addressing the unique metabolic nuances in both men and women. This approach is crucial in advancing our fight against AD and holds the potential to revolutionize how we conceptualize and treat neurodegenerative disorders on an individualized level.
