TTUISD to Celebrate 2015 Graduating Class
Texas Tech Independent School District (TTUISD) will celebrate its 2015 graduating class at the annual commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 30 at 1:00 p.m. in the Merket Alumni Center.
Texas Tech University Provost, Dr. Lawrence Schovanec will address the graduates during the ceremony.
In the TTUISD program, students work at their own pace and often complete the graduation requirements throughout the traditional school year. The 2014-2015 class consists of over 430 students of which 17 will be participating by walking the stage in front of faculty, staff, family and friends on the Texas Tech University Campus.
Among those participating in the ceremony are students from all over the state, some of which have overcome many obstacles and circumstances testing their perseverance. Many students will move on to pursue their education at community or junior colleges and 4-year institutions with aspirations to become floral designers, nurse practitioners, architects, engineers and fashion designers.
In all, the 2014-2015 graduates come from three states in the U.S. and 4 foreign countries: Texas (90), Tennessee (1), North Carolina (1), Brazil (328), Greece (1), Canada (1), Mexico (8). All commencement ceremony attendees are from Texas.
This year, the highest GPA in the graduating class is 4.43, and there are 15 students with a GPA of 4.0 or above. The average GPA is 2.77. The average SAT scores are 528 on the verbal portion, 521 on the math portion, and 497 on the writing portion. The average ACT composite score is 22. STAAR end of course averages are 4350 for English 1, 4552 for ENG 2, 4037 Algebra 1, 4300 for Biology and 4235 for U.S. History.
Two of the graduates will attend Texas Tech University. Other colleges and universities these students will attend include: Texas A&M University, American College of Greece, Central Piedmont Community College – Charlotte, College of Charleston, Collin College, Gustavus Adolphus College, Lamar University, Lone Star College, Louisiana Tech, Lubbock Christian University, OCAD University, Santa Fe University of Art & Design, South Plains College, University of North Texas, University of Santa Barbara, University of Texas, University of Utah, Vernon College and West Texas A&M University.
