Texas Tech offers two ways to take dual credit courses.

8-Week Online Dual Credit

A structured online college classroom experience.

Take the same university courses offered to Texas Tech students in an accelerated 8-week format. Courses are instructor-led and follow a set schedule with weekly assignments and due dates.

Self-paced dual credit allows students to complete coursework online on a more flexible schedule. Students work independently through course materials while still earning Texas Tech University credit.

Dual Credit Is Available to High School Students Everywhere

You don't have to attend Texas Tech K-12 to take Texas Tech dual credit courses.

Eligible high school students may participate whether they are:

  • Enrolled full time with Texas Tech K-12
  • Taking individual Texas Tech K-12 courses
  • Participating through a tuition-free Texas Tech K-12 program
  • Attending a public, private, charter or other high school
  • Participating in the Texas Tech K-12 College Preparatory Academy

Want a More Structured College Pathway?

Texas Tech K-12 College Preparatory Academy

The College Preparatory Academy provides a more structured pathway for students who want to make significant progress toward a college degree while completing high school.

Students enroll full time with Texas Tech K-12 and complete a planned combination of high school and college coursework. The six-year pathway is designed to help students graduate from high school with significant college credit already completed and continue toward a Texas Tech bachelor's degree in Leadership Studies, with the goal of completing the degree by approximately the time they would traditionally complete their sophomore year of college.

Full-time Texas Tech K-12 enrollment is required for participation in the College Preparatory Academy.

What Does Dual Credit Cost?

Dual credit tuition varies based on the type of course and the student's enrollment pathway.

8-Week Online dual credit: approximately $415-$500 per credit hour, depending on student type.

Self-paced dual credit and Texas Tech K-12 student pricing varies. Additional tuition information will be provided here as it becomes available.

Dual Credit Admission Requirements

Texas Tech dual credit is available to eligible high school students, whether you attend Texas Tech K-12 or another high school. To participate, students must:

  • Maintain a minimum high school GPA of  3.0 or higher
  •  Meets or Master STAAR scores
  • Approved By their School Counselor

College Preparatory Academy students: Participation in the College Preparatory Academy requires enrollment in the Texas Tech K-12 Full-Time Diploma Program.
