Guilherme Reischl has always loved to travel. When he grew up and became a businessman, he made it his business to ensure other young people would love to travel too.

Starting with a study-abroad agency that is now the largest of its kind in Latin America, Guilherme and his business partner have recently launched Liberty Education, a company that exists to put the Texas Tech University Independent School District (TTUISD) program in as many Brazilian schools as possible. Liberty acts as a bridge between TTUISD and schools in Brazil who would like to implement its curriculum.

Guilherme had no intention of starting Liberty Education, having previously found his niche with study-abroad, but as he said, “I observed that TTUISD could give students a different kind of passport to the world. A kind we weren't necessarily giving them with study-abroad alone.”

Over ten years ago, Guilherme helped launch Egali – the largest study-abroad agency within Latin America, alongside his business partner Cristiano Martins.

Egali now has 135 branches in over nine countries. Based in Porto Alegre, Brazil, it offers opportunities for students to study abroad in places such as England, Ireland, New Zealand and other destinations.

“I traveled a lot growing up and I learned so much about different cultures because I was backpacking. It was more than the standard one-week tourist experience,” Guilherme said.

“My business partner Cristiano and I both shared a passion for travel and adventure, so when I was 26 years old, I joined him in getting Egali off-the-ground,” Guilherme said.

After ten years of incredible success, Guilherme heard of a new business opportunity that would impact students: TTUISD.

“On a trip to London, I was having dinner with the principal of a Brazilian school that Egali provides travel opportunities to. This principal kept telling me about a program called TTUISD that her school was using and it piqued my interest,” Guilherme admitted.

“She told me that their school loved the TTUISD program and because she thought so highly of it, she found it problematic that TTUISD wasn't better marketed throughout Brazil.”

Guilherme wondered if he might be the solution to that problem.

Guilherme and Cristiano decided to take a trip to Lubbock and visit with the leadership of TTUISD. After hearing about its benefits and it's existing track record in Brazil, Guilherme signed a partnership agreement in April of 2016.

“For this partnership, we created a new company with a new name: Liberty Education. We didn't want to confuse people by combining this new endeavor with the existing mission of Egali. So we started something fresh.”

There are many reasons Guilherme decided to partner with TTUISD, but two reasons stood out to him.

“First, Brazilian students will have a concurrent diploma that is recognized internationally. Whether they wish to go to a university or work in another country, this diploma will help them do that. Second, even if a student never intends to live abroad, completing a concurrent-diploma will ensure that they are fluent in English. Brazilian schools fail most students in this area, so this is a huge advantage for students who enroll in the TTUISD concurrent-diploma program.”

Starting from scratch last year, Liberty Education brought TTUISD into three different schools in Brazil. They are set to make it seven this coming fall.

Liberty Education has big goals going forward with TTUISD.

“Students from all over the world could really benefit from TTUISD. It's a good education for a really good price,” said Guilherme.

On a less strategic note, Guilherme is also looking to add a “Red Raider” Porsche to his racing fleet. When he is not working or traveling, he is often racing in the worldwide Porsche league he belongs to.

Guilherme takes life at an energetic tempo, not only when he is in a Porche, but even when he is sitting face-to-face with you talking. He is an individual who has a drive to make everything he touches better. This passion is seen through the creation of Liberty Education.

“I hope that this company does just that… brings liberty to many students.”
