In January 2019, Texas Tech University High School inaugurated its virtual National Honor Society, the Raiderland Chapter, with 13 students, stateside and international. The chapter has grown since then to include 19 active members and 17 graduated members, and now TTU K-12 is offering the same prestigious honor to its middle schoolers.
Over the summer, five students were joined into the inaugural class for Texas Tech University Middle School's new chapter of National Junior Honor Society (NJHS).

"For our students, this is a chance to connect with classmates, an opportunity that they would not otherwise have in an online school," said Veronica Stringer, chapter advisor for TTU K-12's NHS and NJHS chapters.
Stringer says sixth through eighth graders are eligible, but they must meet the criteria of having completed four courses with TTU K-12 and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Once they apply, a committee reviews each application.
Like its high school counterpart, this group also has an international flair, as the current members are from Australia, England, St. Croix, Texas, and Oklahoma.
"Their classmates are so interesting," Stringer said. "They live all over the world, and they do online school for various reasons. Some have unique hobbies or sports that they are pursuing. This makes for amazing conversation when we get together for meetings. They are not only meeting their classmates, they are hearing a variety of world views and perspectives."
