Tenlee takes a break from school.
When we first introduced Tenlee in fall 2018, she was in second grade and loving the freedom offered through schooling with Texas Tech University Elementary School, where shes been a student since kindergarten. In more than two years, not a lot has changed for the now fourth grader, whose family still loves the flexibility and freedom of self-paced learning from home.
Mom and Texas Tech alumna Kelly says that to supplement her online classes, Tenlee attends English and math tutoring. Her favorite subjects are science and social studies.
“I have a Texas Tech student that helps administer the curriculum nine hours a week,” Kelly said. “Tenlee especially enjoys working with someone other than myself or her dad. Weve had a Tech student working part-time since Tenlee started second grade.”
When so many families were adjusting in the past year to schooling online at home, Kelly says her family really didnt have to pivot.
“We havent traveled much since the pandemic, but Tenlee was thankful she didnt have to adjust her online learning curriculum during lockdown last year.”
Tenlees favorite part of TTU K-12 is the freedom and flexibility it provides, Kelly reiterated. She attends extracurricular activities during traditional classroom hours. Outside of school, Tenlee takes weekly piano, private and group tennis, guitar, art and Spanish lessons.
Knowing the Nyman family educates Tenlee via TTU K-12, Kelly says shes had a few families reach out to her about the program.
“I always tell the family that a school day doesnt have to be 8-3. The curriculum allows you to customize your school schedule. If you prefer to work on school at night or on weekends, that is completely fine. Find what works best for you and your student(s)!”
