Today, data was released for the Marathon 21N mesonet station. This station, located in Brewster County, is the 166th station to join the mesonet program.

Kicking off the celebration of the upcoming 25th anniversary of the program’s creation, the new station was made possible through a generous donation.

In December, the Paul L. Foster Family Foundation donated $25,000 to aid in the building of two new mesonet stations located in Southwest Texas. Marathon 21N is the first of the two stations, the second station will be completed in the coming months.

Located on the edge of the Glass Mountains, the station fills a large gap between the two existing stations (Bedling and Marfa). This region is also prone to severe weather, and data will be useful to local authorities.

WTM thanks personnel from the Lubbock and Midland National Weather Service Offices, as well as NWI staff who helped complete this accomplishment. In addition, WTM gives great thanks to the Paul L. Foster Family Foundation for their generous gift, as without them, this station would not be possible.
