Use the information below to update your legal name, Social Security number or preferred first name in your Texas Tech student record.
How do I update my legal name or Social Security number?
Legal Name Change or Correction
Complete the name change section of the Student Information Correction Form and provide a copy of your current Social Security card.
International students who have not received a Social Security card must contact the Office of International Affairs at 806.742.3667.
Students who are employed by Texas Tech University or Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center must also contact Human Resources at 806.742.3851.
Documentation is required for all legal name changes, including when adding, removing or changing any of the following:
- A suffix such as I, II, III, IV, Jr. or Sr.
- A middle name or middle initial
- A hyphen in a name, such as changing Smith Jones to Smith-Jones
- A middle initial to a full middle name, such as changing John P. Jones to John Paul Jones
Social Security Number Changes
Complete the Social Security number section of the Student Information Correction Form and provide a copy of your current Social Security card.
What if I am also a TTU or TTUHSC employee?
Students who are also employed by Texas Tech University or Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center must have the same legal name and Social Security number on file in both their student record and Human Resources record.
Texas Tech University Employees
If you are both a student and an employee of Texas Tech University, submit the Student Information Correction Form to TTU Human Resources in Drane Hall.
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Employees
If you are both a student and an employee of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, contact the TTUHSC Human Resources office in the Health Sciences Center building on 4th Street.
How do I update my preferred first name?
Your preferred first name can be updated through Raiderlink under My Personal Information. A preferred first name may be used as a shortened version of your legal name or as a nickname.
A preferred first name designation is only necessary when your preferred first name differs from your chosen first name.
