Texas Tech University

About SGA

The Texas Tech University Student Government Association represents the interests of the student body and provides students a voice in university decision-making. SGA works with students, university leadership, faculty and staff on issues affecting the Texas Tech experience.

Every regularly enrolled Texas Tech student is a member of the Student Government Association. Student government is led by elected and appointed student representatives serving through the executive, legislative and judicial branches.

Mission & Purpose

SGA exists to represent and advocate for Texas Tech students, strengthen communication between students and the university and promote positive changes that improve the student experience.

Through elected leadership, the Student Senate, university committee appointments, student fee processes, programs and other initiatives, SGA provides students with opportunities to participate directly in university governance.

SGA works to:

  • Represent student interests to university leadership.
  • Provide a forum for student concerns and ideas.
  • Develop and consider student government legislation.
  • Represent students on university committees.
  • Provide student input on certain university fees and services.
  • Support student organizations through eligible funding opportunities.
  • Encourage student leadership and involvement.

How SGA Is Organized

SGA Governance

The Student Government Association operates under governing rules that establish the organization, define the authority and responsibilities of each branch and set procedures for student government operations.

SGA's governing structure includes a Constitution and Code of Law. These documents establish the roles of elected and appointed officers, the Student Senate, Supreme Court, elections and other areas of student government.

Questions about SGA governance or current governing requirements may be directed to the SGA office.

Operations Staff

Professional staff support the day-to-day operation of SGA and provide continuity, advising and administrative support for student leaders and programs.
