Student Organization Funding

The Student Government Association allocates a portion of Student Service Fee funding to eligible registered student organizations. Funding can help organizations provide programs, activities and opportunities for Texas Tech students.

Organizations interested in SGA funding should review the annual funding timeline, maintain university registration requirements and complete required funding training before using an allocation.

Funding Eligibility

SGA funding is available to eligible registered student organizations for nonacademic programs and activities that benefit Texas Tech students.

Organizations seeking funding should:

• Be registered and in good standing with Student Involvement.
• Complete applicable annual risk management requirements.
• Meet SGA funding deadlines.
• Complete required Funding Training.
• Follow university and SGA requirements for the use of student fee funds.

Eligibility may vary depending on the type of organization and whether the organization receives financial support from another university source.

How Funding Works

Student organizations generally request funding during the annual SGA funding process for the following fiscal year. Requests are reviewed through the Student Senate Budget & Finance Committee.

Annual Funding Process

1. Confirm that the organization is registered and eligible for funding.
2. Submit the required funding request during the annual application period.
3. Participate in a funding interview when required.
4. Wait for the funding review and allocation process to be completed.
5. Complete annual Funding Training and other compliance requirements before using an approved allocation.

Funding is limited, and submitting a request does not guarantee that an organization will receive the full amount requested.

FY27 Funding Timeline

FY27 funding applies to the fiscal year beginning in September 2026 and continuing through August 2027.

Funding Applications

• Funding process opened: Sept. 2, 2025
• Application deadline without penalty: Oct. 31, 2025 at 5 p.m.
• Late application period: Nov. 1-30, 2025
• Funding application process closed: Nov. 30, 2025

Funding Interviews

• Interview signup without penalty: Nov. 1, 2025-Jan. 9, 2026
• Late interview signup: Jan. 10-18, 2026
• Funding interviews: Jan. 26-Feb. 6, 2026

Organizations that missed the annual funding process should contact SGA to ask whether another funding option may be available.

Funding Training

Organizations receiving SGA funding must complete annual Funding Training before accessing their allocation. Training explains how student fee funds may be used and the responsibilities organizations have when managing university funds.

FY27 Funding Training

Funding Training is scheduled for Sept. 1-15, 2026 in the Student Union Building.

Two organization officers should complete Funding Training. Organizations should select officers who will be directly involved in managing the budget, making purchases or coordinating funded activities.

Training Covers

• Allowable and prohibited expenses
• University purchasing requirements
• Travel requirements
• Required financial documentation
• Funding deadlines
• Organization responsibilities
• Maintaining funding eligibility throughout the year

Organizations should not make purchases or financial commitments using anticipated SGA funds until required training and compliance steps are complete.

Using SGA Funds

SGA funding may only be used for expenses permitted under university and SGA requirements. Organizations should confirm that an expense is eligible before making a purchase or committing funds.

Funding may support eligible expenses such as:

• Student organization programs and events
• Approved student travel
• Conference or event registration
• Eligible transportation and lodging
• Other approved organization expenses

Having an available allocation does not mean that every organization expense can be paid or reimbursed through SGA funding.

If an organization is unsure whether an expense is eligible, contact SGA before making the purchase.

Contingency Funding

Contingency funding may be available during the fiscal year for eligible organizations with unexpected expenses or circumstances that were not addressed through the annual funding process.

Availability depends on remaining funds, the organization's funding status and the nature of the request.
