SGA Elections

 

Student Government Association elections give Texas Tech students the opportunity to choose their representatives and run for elected leadership positions. Elections are administered by the SGA Election Commission.

Students interested in running for office should review the annual election timeline, complete required candidate steps and stay informed about Election Commission deadlines throughout the election period.

Run for Office

Students interested in serving in an elected SGA position begin by filing a Statement of Intent during the annual candidate filing period.

Candidates are responsible for completing all required election steps, attending required candidate meetings and following SGA election rules throughout the campaign.

General Candidate Process

1. Review the current election schedule and eligibility requirements.
2. File a Statement of Intent by the published deadline.
3. Attend required candidate orientation or seminar activities.
4. Complete campaign requirements before beginning campaign activities.
5. Participate in candidate forums when applicable.
6. Campaign during the approved campaign period.
7. Complete required post-election reporting.

Eligibility requirements may vary by position. Candidates should verify current requirements before entering an election.

2026 Election Schedule

The 2026 SGA Spring General Election process began in January and concluded in March.

Candidate Filing

• Jan. 5-21: Statement of Intent filing period
• Jan. 21 at 5 p.m.: Statement of Intent deadline

Candidate Preparation

• Jan. 23 at 5 p.m.: Executive Candidate Orientation, Student Union Building, Masked Rider Room 220
• Jan. 23 at 6 p.m.: Candidate Seminar, Student Union Building, Escondido Theatre Room 001
• Jan. 24: Campaigning began at midnight

Candidate Forums

• Feb. 9-20: Senator forum window
• Feb. 27: Executive Candidate Forum

Voting

• March 3: General Election, voting open from 9 a.m.-11:59 p.m.
• March 6: General Election results announcement
• March 11: Runoff Election, if required, voting open from 9 a.m.-11:59 p.m.
• March 13: Runoff results announcement

Candidate Requirements & Campaigning

Candidates are responsible for understanding and following SGA election requirements throughout the election period.

Candidate Requirements May Include:

• Meeting eligibility requirements for the office sought
• Completing candidate filing by the published deadline
• Attending required candidate orientation or seminar activities
• Following campaign start and stop dates
• Registering campaign materials when required
• Following university rules for campaign materials and locations
• Following SGA requirements related to endorsements
• Submitting required financial disclosure information after the election

Candidates should contact the Election Commission if they have questions about an election rule or campaign activity before taking action.

Voting

SGA elections are conducted online. Currently enrolled eligible students can vote during the designated election period.

Voting is only available while the election is open. Students should use their Texas Tech credentials and follow the instructions provided through the official election system.

The Election Commission administers SGA elections and oversees the election process.

The Election Commission is responsible for:

• Publishing the election schedule
• Managing candidate requirements
• Overseeing campaign procedures
• Conducting candidate seminars and orientations
• Managing ballots and voting
• Addressing election-related concerns
• Publishing election results

Election Results

The 2026 SGA General Election was held March 3, 2026. Current election results should be maintained on this page rather than separated into annual PDF reports or an archive of individual result documents.

Historical election records may be retained internally by SGA when needed, but the public site should focus on current election results and current elected leadership.
