Committees
Students appointed through the Student Government Association serve on university committees that address issues affecting the Texas Tech student experience. Committee representatives work alongside faculty, staff and administrators to provide student perspectives on university services, policies, facilities and student fees.
Each committee is responsible for reviewing its designated fee while representing the interests and perspectives of the student body. Through this process, committee members can voice concerns, discuss opportunities for improvement, and make recommendations that will enhance the student experience at Texas Tech University.
Committee responsibilities and meeting schedules vary. Some committees meet once or twice each semester, while others meet more frequently or as needed during the academic year.
University Committees
University standing committees provide opportunities for students to participate directly in decisions affecting Texas Tech. These committees are generally chaired by university administrators and include student representatives appointed to provide the student perspective.
ADA/504 Compliance
Reviews university facilities, programs, services and activities related to disability access and ADA/504 compliance and makes recommendations for improvements.
Bookstore Advisory
Reviews the operation of the university bookstore and considers how effectively it serves the needs of students and faculty.
Student Union Advisory
Provides student input on the planning, growth and direction of the Student Union and its services.
University Discipline
Student representatives may participate in disciplinary hearings involving students or registered student organizations in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct.
University Discipline Appeals
Student representatives may participate in the review of eligible student or student organization conduct appeals.
Additional University Committees
Other committee opportunities may become available throughout the year based on university needs and student representation requirements.
Student Fee Committees
Student fee committees review specific university fees and provide recommendations regarding fee levels, budgets and services supported by those fees. SGA appoints students to several of these committees.
Student Service Fee
Reviews the Student Service Fee and considers funding for programs and services that support the student body.
Medical Service Fee
Reviews the Medical Service Fee and considers recommendations related to student medical services and future service needs.
Transportation Fee
Reviews the student transportation fee and provides input on services and transportation needs affecting students.
Student Union Fee
Reviews Student Union budgets, programs, projected expenses and facility needs and makes recommendations regarding the Student Union fee.
University ID Maintenance Fee
Reviews the university identification fee and provides a recommendation regarding the fee.
University Recreation
Provides student input related to recreation programs, services and applicable student fee considerations.
Athletic Fee
Reviews the athletic fee and provides student input on the student experience at athletic events and future fee recommendations.
Student Service Fee Committee
The Student Service Fee Committee plays a particularly significant role in reviewing programs and services supported through the Student Service Fee. The committee considers funding needs and recommendations for student-focused programs and services across the university.
The committee includes both students and university faculty or staff. After reviewing requests and committee recommendations, funding recommendations move through the university approval process.
Student Organization Funding
A portion of Student Service Fee funding is allocated through SGA for eligible student organizations. The Student Senate Budget and Finance Committee administers that funding process under SGA funding regulations.

Serve on a Committee
Serving as a student committee representative provides an opportunity to work directly with faculty, staff and administrators while representing student interests in university decision-making.
Students selected for committee service should be prepared to attend meetings during regular university business hours and participate throughout the committee's appointment period. The time commitment varies by committee.
First-year students may also participate as Student Committee Representatives through SGA's First Year Engagement opportunities.
