I am a Program Manager for TSI Literacy, and I strive to help students succeed in their ENG 1301 course by providing any help where I can. I was born and raised right here in the good ol' LBK and attended high school at New Deal High. After graduating from a small school, I wanted to keep the small school feel during my college experience, so I attended LCU to obtain my bachelor's degree in Middle School Education with a specialty in English.

Ask me about:

How to pronounce my last name:

Think “Brr-sheers”. The best way you can remember is if you shear a sheep, they’re going to say “brr”.

Why English?

Ironically, I have not always had a passion for literature or writing. In fact, I despised reading as a middle school and high school student and even had to take the reading portion of the TSI multiple times (imagine wanting to be an English teacher only to find out Math was what you test well on- oof). It wasn't until my third year of college when an English professor sparked my interest in literature and analyzing it. So, if reading and/or writing doesn't come easily to you- I get it. You might be asking yourself, "But Mrs. Barcheers, if you didn't enjoy English all that much, what possessed you to want to be an English teacher?" Great question! There have been a few teachers throughout my life who have consistently inspired me and pushed me to do better, and funny enough, they have consistently been English teachers. So, I was inspired by those English teachers to become an English teacher myself who can help those who may have also struggled with reading and writing like I have.

Personal Info (and other tidbits)

I am married to my high school sweetheart, and I have one cat named Ghost. In my free time, I enjoy being with friends and family, reading, watching shows with my husband, and baking. My favorite genres of books to read are romance, thriller, and literary fiction. I enjoy writing poems and journalling. My favorite color is blue. I'm a sucker for all things carbs and sweets. My favorite season was summer, but I’m starting to like fall more, and my favorite seasoning is garlic salt or Cajun seasoning. I like believing that I'm good at taking care of plants... my plants like to think otherwise. My go-to fast food restaurant is Sonic. I enjoy a good dad joke, and you will often hear one from me if you are in my class.
