Lubbock Lost and Found Items

The Texas Tech Police Department oversees lost property collected from on-campus locations, including the Rec Center, Library, academic buildings, dormitories, and during special events like football games. Initially, items are stored by university staff at the locations they were first found. Items remaining unclaimed after several days are sent to the Texas Tech Police Department.

Items that Are Not Retained

Please note the following are not accepted by the Texas Tech Police Department:

• Clothing
• Food, drinks, lunch bags, or coolers
• Chemicals or health hazards (for these, please contact Environmental Health Safety for proper disposal)
• Perishable items

If you’ve misplaced something not listed above, let us know by email. Be sure to provide a detailed description of the item. Helpful details include: brand, color, size, shape, model number, quantity, material (such as leather or metal), special features, and any tags or labels that may be present.  Personal photos depicting you in possession of the item are also great to help establish ownership.

Once property makes its way to the Texas Tech Police Department, unclaimed items clearly valued less than $500 will be held for 30 days.  If the item has a fair market value of $500 or more (high value), a notice will be posted on this page, and the item will be held for 90 days.

How to Claim an Item You Lost

To view or claim found items stored at Texas Tech Police Department, appointments are required. When you visit, please bring a photo ID and proof of ownership for the item. You will also be asked to provide a description of the property, approximately where and when it was lost, and you will be required to sign a Property Release Form for claimed items.

Found Property

The Texas Tech Police Department frequently obtains property to be returned to an owner.  In accordance with the law, property which has an identified owner will be listed here on the first work day of the month.  If the owner does not claim the property before the 90th day after the date of the notice, the property will be disposed. The property will be held at the Property Room of the Texas Tech Police Department located at 413 Flint Avenue Lubbock, Texas 79409.
