Jurisdiction and Authority of the Texas Tech Police Department
Texas Tech police officers are fully accredited law enforcement officers and have full law enforcement powers derived from Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, § 2.12, and the Texas Education Code, § 51.203. Prior to employment, all Texas Tech police officers undergo an extensive background investigation.
The primary jurisdiction of the Department is defined as all property owned, leased, rented or otherwise under the control of the Board of Regents of the Texas Tech University System. The Texas Tech Police Department by policy patrols the main campuses of Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock to detect and deter crime. Texas Tech Police Department is also responsible for investigation all crimes which occur on campus.
Texas Tech Police Department employs over 140 dedicated individuals interested in making a positive impact by providing a safe and secure educational environment. To help ensure the safety and security on campus it is important all members of the University Community promptly report crimes and concerns.
