A private person who shies away from praise and publicity, D. Wyman Tidwell exemplifies the best of entrepreneurship: an ability not only to establish and successfully develop an enterprise, but to instill in the employees of that enterprise the kind of confidence and professionalism that enables them to grow and achieve.

Born and raised in Munday, Texas, Mr. Tidwell attended public schools there, entered Texas Tech in 1956, and graduated in 1961 with a degree in chemical engineering. Upon graduation he began his career with Union Carbide, where he was involved in applying computer control to chemical processes, and achieved the status of Department Manager. From 1969 to 1977, he worked for two outstanding consulting firms, where he rose from project manager to Vice President and General Manager.

In 1977, Mr. Tidwell established Setpoint, Inc., an engineering and computer applications firm which has gained international recognition for computerized process control. Under Mr. Tidwell’s direction, the company has grown to a staff of 200 with annual sales of $18 million. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Setpoint Canada, Ltd. and is a member of the Executive Management of Setpoint Japan, Inc.

Those who know Mr. Tidwell attribute his success to his genuine concern for people, loyalty in all relationships, honesty and fairness in his dealings with others, keen business acumen, ability to think in the future, and patience to carefully plan and execute innovative advancements.

Along with career success, Mr. Tidwell enjoys a busy personal and family life. He and his wife, the former Belinda Coates, reside on the Tidwell Ranch at Bellville, where he raises purebred Santa Gertrudis cattle. Mr. Tidwell is active in the Santa Gertrudis Breeders Association, where he serves on the International Marketing and Promotion Committee. He also participates in a number of professional associations and in the First Baptist Church of Bellville.

The Tidwells have three daughters.

It is with great pride that we look upon this outstanding alumnus. We are privileged to designate him a DISTINGUISHED ENGINEER of Texas Tech University.
