David L. Hirschfeld graduated from Texas Tech in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. After his graduation, he joined the family–owned business, which had just five employees and annual sales of less than $50,000. Under his leadership and direction, the company now employs 800 people and its annual sales are in the range of $150 million. With the exception of the years in College and his service in the U.S. Army, he has lived and worked in San Angelo. In 1993, San Angelo recognized Mr. Hirschfeld as Citizen of the Year.

His record of community service is very long and distinguished. He has served as director and president of the West Texas Lighthouse for the Blind. He has also served as the director and president of the West Side Optimist Club and has been honored as the Optimist of the Year. He served as chairman of the Board of Appeals and Adjustments for the City of San Angelo for six years. He has served as the director and vice–president, as well as, chairman for the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce and also as a director of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce. He serves on the executive board of the West Texas Rehabilitation Center, the Texas Commerce Bank, and the Texas Association of Business.

He has served in leadership roles as the Chairman of the Concho Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the River Club, the United Way of the Concho Valley, and has served on the executive board of the San Angelo Symphony and the Salvation Army. He currently serves as a member of the executive board of directors of the San Angelo National Bank, the West Texas Community Health Network, and also serves as the chairman of the San Angelo Health Foundation, and the American Institute of Steel Construction.

David and his wife, Judith, have four children, David, Jr., Shawnee Ingram, Kendall, and Wendall. They have eight grandchildren, which he states will help to carry on the incredible success story of a company that started in a dirt–floored building and now carries the name of this remarkable family around the world.

Texas Tech University is proud to name David L. Hirschfeld as DISTINGUISHED ENGINEER.
