At the Core of Davis College
Engagement, Service, and Outreach
Service and Supporting Students
- One-year retention rate of 87%
- One of the highest six-year graduation rates at the university
- Continually funding youth development and leadership programs
We want to make the transition to college easier. That means taking care of the whole student. Our Early Alert Program identifies students having difficulty in their classes and makes them aware of tutoring and other services offered by Davis College and the university. Targeted academic advising by faculty members ensures each student receives personal attention from a professor. These programs and relationships change the trajectory of student lives and careers.
Creating Change Through Industry Engagement
- Eight joint appointments with Texas AgriLife Research
- Long-time USDA-Agricultural Research Service partnership
- 11 strategic initiatives with programs that transform lives and communities
The reason we encourage a 60/40 real-world experience to classroom lecture time split is we know change doesn't only come from sitting in a class. Change happens when people are actively working, observing, researching, and sharing knowledge. Davis College has a culture that recognizes outreach and engaged scholarship as essential to true collegiate impact. We foster this through diverse funding streams and long-term campus-community partnerships to support outreach and engaged programs. The research and programs at Davis College are changing the trajectory of the human experience.

Davis College outreach programs are designed for full engagement with both industry and academic institutions. Our faculty serve the agricultural and natural resources industry through local producer boards and are active in other local, state, and national organizations. We provide showmanship clinics, livestock events, judging workshops, and judging contests to youth throughout Texas. We know 4-H, FFA, and other groups are critical in finding the next generation of agricultural leaders.
