Tech equestrians make regional championship run
Fresh off victories earlier this season at West Texas A&M, North Central Texas College, and Louisiana State University, Texas Tech University's equestrian team has now added to its 2008-2009 season accolades by earning championship titles at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Zone 7, Region 2 Hunt Seat and Western Regional Championships.
Hunt Seat Regional Championship. The Red Raiders had two individual qualifiers compete at the Hunt Seat Regional Championship held March 1 at West Texas A&M University in Canyon. Lindsey Mortimer, a junior general studies major from Austin, won the Intermediate Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat competition and earned Reserve Champion honors in Intermediate Hunt Seat Equitation over Fences.
Chelsea Hosmer, a sophomore marketing major from Tucson, Ariz., was the Reserve Champion in the Novice Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat and placed fourth in the Novice Hunt Seat Equitation over Fences competition. Both Mortimer and Hosmer will compete April 5 at the IHSA Hunt Seat Zone 7 Championship at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyo.
Western Regional Championship. In addition to winning Reserve Champion Team honors for Zone 7, Region 2 at the
Texas Tech Equestrian Center on March 8, the Texas Tech Western Team also had eight
individual riders qualify for the IHSA Western National Semi-Final Championships held
March 21-22 at West Texas A&M. They were:

"Kelsey Lieurance, a freshman animal science major from El Paso (Champion - Novice
Western Horsemanship)
"Jessica Jarvis, a sophomore animal science major from Spearman (Reserve Champion
"" Novice Western Horsemanship)
"Cheryl Hensley, a senior animal science major from Lubbock (Reserve Champion "" Beginner
Western Horsemanship)
National Championship Run. If riders in their respective disciplines qualify at their respective Zone Championship Shows, they'll advance to the IHSA National Championship Show held April 23-26 at Middle Tennessee State University, said Robin Morris, coach of the Tech Equestrian Team and a graduate student in the Department of Animal and Food Sciences.
